The Symbol

The Symbol of Special Olympics is the five figures of the globe.

It represents the presence of Special Olympics reaching and involving people around the world. Special Olympics truly is a worldwide organization currently serving more than 2.25 million persons with intellectual disabilities in more than 200 programs in more than 150 countries. Today, Special Olympics stands as a leader in the field of intellectual disability. It is a truly global movement, with more than 500,000 athletes in China, more than 210,000 in India, almost 550,000 in the United States, more than 600 in Afghanistan and 4,400 athletes in Rwanda. Special Olympics World Games were held in Ireland in 2003 and Japan in 2005 and, in 2007, China will host the World Summer Games.
